Accessibility

This page describes what was actually built, rather than stating an intention.

This site targets WCAG 2.2 Level AA. What follows is a description of the specific measures in the build, so you can judge it rather than take a statement on trust.

Structure and navigation

  • Semantic landmarks on every page: header, navigation, main and footer.
  • A skip link to the main content, which becomes visible on keyboard focus.
  • Exactly one h1 per page, with headings nested in order. This is asserted by an automated crawl of every route, so it cannot regress unnoticed.
  • Breadcrumbs on every page below the homepage, matching the structured data.
  • A complete HTML site map linked from the footer.

Keyboard

  • Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard.
  • Focus indicators are high contrast, and driven by a CSS variable so that dark sections switch to a light focus ring rather than losing it against the background.
  • The mobile navigation drawer traps focus while open, closes on Escape, and returns focus to the button that opened it.
  • The FAQ uses native disclosure elements, so it works without JavaScript.

Forms

  • Every field has a programmatically associated label.
  • Errors are associated with their field through aria-describedby and marked with aria-invalid.
  • Submission results are announced through a live region.
  • A failed submission never discards what you typed.
  • Fields declare appropriate input types and autocomplete hints.

Visual design

  • Text colours meet or exceed 4.5:1 against their background. The measured ratio is recorded beside each colour token in the source, so a future change cannot quietly break it.
  • Base body text is 16px, and the layout reflows without horizontal scrolling at 320px.
  • The page remains usable at 200% zoom.
  • Interactive targets are at least 44px in their smallest dimension.
  • Wide tables and diagrams scroll inside their own container rather than forcing the page sideways.

Motion

The only animation on the site is a 150 millisecond colour transition on interactive elements. Where a visitor has asked their system to reduce motion, transitions and smooth scrolling are switched off entirely.

Images and diagrams

Diagrams are inline SVG with a title and a text description, so the information in them is available to a screen reader rather than locked inside a picture. Decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology.

Known limits

  • Automated testing cannot confirm everything. Manual keyboard and screen-reader passes are part of the release process, but no site is ever finished being tested.
  • Where this site links out to municipal or provincial documents, we do not control the accessibility of those documents. Several are PDFs.
