Service Area

Edmonton and the surrounding municipalities. Organised by the thing that actually changes between them: who issues the permit.

We work across Edmonton and the surrounding area. The one practical difference between communities is which authority issues your building permit — Sherwood Park goes through Strathcona County, not the City of Edmonton — which is why the community or postal code is the first thing our quote form asks for.

Permit authorities

Alberta adopts the National Building Code – Alberta Edition, so the egress requirement itself does not change as you cross a municipal boundary. The permit does. Each authority below runs its own process, publishes its own fees and reviews its own submissions.

Why there are no city landing pages here

There is nothing meaningfully different about cutting a foundation wall in Beaumont versus Stony Plain. The wall, the header, the well and the drainage behave the same way. Producing eight near-identical pages with the place name changed would add nothing a homeowner could use, and it is the pattern search engines correctly treat as doorway behaviour.

If a community ever warrants its own page, it will be because the permit process there differs enough to be worth explaining properly — not because the name exists.

What does vary by location

  • The permit authority, its forms, its fees and its review timeline
  • Travel, on projects at the outer edge of the area
  • Lot access — established inner-city lots, newer subdivisions and acreages present genuinely different equipment access, and that is a site question rather than a city question

How the Edmonton permit process works covers the City side in detail, including the engineering threshold that applies province-wide.

Common questions

Which communities do you serve?

Edmonton, Sherwood Park and Strathcona County, St. Albert, Leduc, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Beaumont and the surrounding area.

Is the permit process the same outside Edmonton?

No. The provincial building code behind the egress requirement is the same across Alberta, but permits are issued municipally. Each municipality has its own application process, forms, fee schedule and review timeline.

Who issues the permit for a project in Sherwood Park?

Strathcona County, not the City of Edmonton. Sherwood Park is a hamlet within Strathcona County, and the County publishes its own basement development requirements and issues its own building permits.

Does my location change the price?

Travel distance can, and the permit fee schedule differs between municipalities. The much larger cost variables are what is in your wall and what is outside it — not which side of a municipal boundary you are on.

Why are there no separate pages for each city?

Because there is nothing genuinely different to say about the physical work in one community versus another, and writing the same page eight times with the place name swapped would be padding rather than help. What does differ is the permit authority, which is what this page covers.
